Exploring Boston and Cambridge

Exploring Boston and Cambridge

Sometimes even the best planned travel itinerary can go up in flames without notice and you either adopt the glass half full mentality and make the most of it or go with the half glass empty mindset and miss out on a great opportunity.

I have always been a glass half full kinda gal, so when my trip to Boston earlier this year was threatened by what is being called one of the worse snow storms in a decade, I had to decide if I would spend all weekend tucked in my hotel room or bundle up and make the most of it. Looking back, I am glad I chose the later because snow storm aside - this has been one of my favorite travel experiences to date. A lot of what I had planned for the weekend had to be tossed out due to the weather, but the few things I got up were fun and memorable.

I arrived Friday evening and was too exhausted and cold to do anything. I ordered some takeout and was in bed by 8 p.m. Saturday started off early with a stop at Simon's for the best maple oat scone and chocolate espresso ever for breakfast. Then, it was off to explore the Harvard campus and Harvard Square for a tour of the grounds. While there, I stumbled on a chilli festival that featured  incredible chili and a second line band.  Temps were too low for this Texas gal, so I made a stop in to starbucks for a hot beverage before heading back to my hotel to defrost. I settled in with my hot beverage and caught up on my magazines reads for the month. Followed by a mani session and a quick nap.

After a few hours of R & R - It was time to head out again. This time to Newbury street for major window shopping. Then off to explore the North end and a quick (and early) dinner at Mama Maria - really fantastic Italian food (call ahead for reservations). After dinner , I stopped into Modern bakery on the recommendation of my friend "B" - I picked up the Stuffed canoli with pistachio to go. I closed out the night with a facial using the First Aid beauty facial radiance overnight mask and my canolli with hot tea. It was perfect end to an amazing vacation day.

The next day started out with a visit to the New England Holocaust museum and a walk around faneuil hall. Then it was time for brunch at Cafe Luna. The mac and cheese is WOW and the honey biscuits - shut the front door ! After brunch , I packed up and headed back to home base. A lot of the itinerary was tossed out due to the weather, but the few things I got to were amazing - I cannot wait to visit Boston/Cambridge in the Spring or Summer.
